About Craig + Tom

I first met Craig 10 years ago in London. I had just started practising yoga and I was fortunate to find Craig teaching at Hot Power Yoga in Clapham. Immediately I was drawn to Craig's larger then life personality, and his gift for teaching yoga with wisdom and humour!

It was Craig who first suggested a yoga teacher training to me! So in 2014 I signed up for a Power Yoga Teacher Training with Craig and Dylan Ayaloo.

I feel extremely lucky to have Craig as one of my guides and mentors on my yoga path, and over the past 10 years we have become very close friends - I love this guy like my own brother!

We have a passion for dressing up, dirty jokes, sweaty sober dancing, singing, chanting, banging a drum and of course Yoga!

In 2016 we both completed the Forrest Yoga foundation training in Peterborough. We shared a little cottage together in the countryside and drove to training each day in Craig's Golf convertible with the top down singing to Queen songs.

We can promise you an immensely fun, inspiring, challenging week of growth, exploration, acceptance and community. We look forward to meeting you!

Craig Bio

Craig’s joyous and playful character will allow you to deepen your practice by approaching it with humour and open-mindedness. His classes challenge, uplift and heal by enabling you to explore the playing field of your body and mind. Flirting with your limits will allow you to grow in your relationship with yourself.

Craig teaches so that people can experience the healing effects of yoga, create change in themselves and live with empowerment and confidence. He has studied numerous styles of meditation, yoga, chanting and other spiritual practices. Trained in various forms of yoga including Ashtanga, Sivananda, Iyengar, Satyananda, and Forrest. He has a great love for the traditional; he continues his study of Sanskrit, as well as, Vedic chanting both in the UK and India.

Tom Bio

I walked into my very first Yoga class on a weekend trip to Amsterdam 10 years ago. Since then I have explored different styles including Bikram, Ashtanga, Power Vinyasa Yoga and now I teach the intensely physical and healing Forrest Yoga, a modern, dynamic practice carefully crafted by Ana Forrest over the past 40 years.

Forrest Yoga ignites every cell in my body. I love the intensity and the emphasis on personal freedom, intuition, and connection to spirit and the authentic self.

Yoga has brought wonderful healing to my life.10 years ago I was in a very different place. I struggled with addiction, depression and social anxiety. I felt lost and disconnected from myself and the world around me.

Through regular Yoga practice I started to heal, nourish and respect my body and bring joy and presence into my life. Yoga for me is an exhilarating, joyful and at times painful journey of growth and self discovery - I love every second.

What to expect:

  • Energising and uplifting morning Ceremony + Forrest Yoga practice

  • Singing + Drumming + Dancing

  • Star Gazing

  • Relaxing by the natural plunge pool

  • Hiking to waterfalls, pools down the valley

  • River swimming

  • 3 delicious homemade Ayurvedic meals every day

  • Community amongst open people from around the world

  • Plenty of time to yourself to relax

Three delicious and nutritious vegetarian/vegan meals every day. Fresh vegetables, salads and fruit available from neighbouring gardens during the season and from favourite local greengrocers in Oleiros.

Rich in pulses and grains, low in salt and high in fresh herbs and spices. Honey from local wild bees is preferred over sugar.

The chefs bring a passion and joy to their cooking. They have years of experience with vegetarian and vegan food. Their fusion of ingredients, spices and flavours, according to the principles of Ayurveda, mean every dish is not only tasty but also easy to digest.

We will start the day with warming tea and fruit before a meditation walk in the forest, followed by yoga class. After which we serve a hearty breakfast of rice, millet or oat porridge, with fruit salad, toasted nuts and seeds, and freshly squeezed juices.

Lunch is the biggest meal of the day when our stomachs are best able to digest. Dinners are light to help us sleep more deeply. Food is plentiful at Vale de Moses. And one of the highlights of the retreat!

The majority of our menus are vegan and gluten free. Please do let us know any other requirements in advance and introduce yourself to our chefs when you arrive.

You can choose to stay in one of 2 shared stone cottages, 3 private bedrooms in the farmhouse or 5 Soulpad belle tents in the forest. Wherever you stay you will have nearby access to our indoor bathrooms and also 3 outdoor showers. Beds are either quality mattresses or superb Portuguese made futons, all with memory foam toppers, cotton sheets, blankets, mosquito nets, good pillows and duvets. Restorative sleep is an essential part of your retreat with us.

Farmhouse //

3 Private Double Rooms Available to Couples

There are 3 private double bedrooms, each with a double bed, in the farmhouse that also houses the main kitchens, a library with grand piano, internet access, and the yoga shala floating above the herb and salad gardens below.

Moses Cottage //

4 Single Beds

Our guest cottage sleeps 4 and is surrounded by olive trees and newly planted fruit orchards. Inside it is open plan (no internal doors) over 3 storeys with a single bed on the mezzanine over the kitchen, a single bed on the ground floor, and twin beds on the first floor. Each have comfy mattress toppers for a deep sleep.

The bathroom is in the small building on the right, which used to be the kitchen and houses a new shower and a dry toilet.

The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for early morning and night time teas.

Just below the cottage, there is a plunge pool fed from the cold running stream, essential for cooling off in the heat of the summer retreats. There are also a couple of natural pools in the streams for daily swimming (weather permitting).

Monastic Adega

2 Single Rooms

Ninja Room (Cosy Single)

The Adega is the name of the place where the Portuguese make their wine. We've restored it into a simple monastic living space. Sleeps 3, with singles on the ground floor, a mezzanine and in a tiny room at the top (fondly named the Ninja Suite). Built into the mountainside, with access up stone carved steps, right next to one of the rivers running through Vale de Moses.  We added electricity in order to light the rooms more safely than candles in the summer.

The Adega is a cosy place to sleep nestled into the rock, with lovely views down the valley, and with what our guests often describe as a timeless quality. Outside is a shower in the old grape pressing tank with water solar heated from an ancient Moorish water mine up the valley. On the olive terrace below is a wooden cabin wc and wash room. You are also welcome to use any of our other bath and shower rooms too as well as the kitchen in the Moses guest cottage round the corner.

It is our smallest stone cottage and the perfect place to "unplug" and rest deeply to the soundscape of the forest, the running water in the stream below and the hearbeat of the mountain. Bring a torch.

Soulpad Bell Tent

2 Single Tents

2 Double Tents

1 Twin Tent

Stay in one of the 5 delightful Soulpad bell tents with single, double or twin mahogany beds, drawers, carpets, electricity, hot water bottles, blankets, towels, mosquito nets and sun loungers, hammocks and solar outside. These are located in a quiet valley with the best views of the sunsets and stars at night.

Forrest Yoga

Created by Ana Forrest over the past 45 years, Forrest Yoga is an intensely physical practice that will make you sweat and ignite every cell in your body through deep breathing and powerful, healing poses.

Forrest Yoga teaches you to go deeper to find your truth, and encourages you to take these gifts you have earned beyond the mat and into the rest of your life.

Forrest Yoga honors and celebrates the beauty of life and the power of Spirit. It is an inspiring yoga practice that builds flexibility, intelligence and strength while helping deepen the relationship with your authentic self. Accessing your intuition - the voice of your Spirit - builds personal strength and ushers integrity into your daily interactions.

Forrest Yoga challenges you to heal, grow and welcome your Spirit home.

Forrest Yoga does not require strength or flexibility; it only requires a willingness to learn how to feel authentically and respond honestly. The practice is founded on four pillars -- Breath, Strength, Integrity and Spirit.

Forrest Yoga teaches you how to breathe deeply, connect in feeling with your body, use the power of breath to bring aliveness into every cell of your body and ignite your passion for living.

Forrest Yoga teaches you to connect to your core, to be strong and centered. The intense pose sequences are designed to help you develop the skills to awaken each of your senses. The long holds help you progress in the poses and go deeper. Aided by the use of heat, your body is freed from toxins; the deep breathing  oxygenates and rejuvenates every cell in your body.

Forrest Yoga teaches you to become proficient at safely tailoring each pose to work best for you, particularly with physical and emotional injuries. By learning to work honestly at your edges, you develop effective tools to deal with fear and struggle. This makes it possible for integrity, self-awareness and playful curiosity to become part of your daily life.

Forrest Yoga's intent is to create a sense of freedom, a connection to your Spirit and the courage to walk as your Spirit dictates.

Alcohol + Substances

This retreat is alcohol and recreational drug free. Please do not bring alcohol with you. Please do not bring any recreational drugs with you.

We all have our own unique and personal relationship to alcohol and substances, this retreat is about us coming together to connect with ourselves and each other in a conscious way without the effects of alcohol and substances. If you would like to discuss this with me then please get in touch by email.

Fly into Lisbon or Porto on the Friday or Saturday if you can, and enjoy a day or 2 in those charming cities or by the beach before heading up to see us in the mountains on the Sunday afternoon coaches: the 1.30pm from Lisbon or the 4.30pm from Porto, to our local town of Oleiros, where we will pick you up by car on arrival. Coach timetable (only for next month in advance), prices and tickets on the Rede Expressos website. The Sete Rios coach station in Lisbon is a 15 minute shuttle bus, metro or taxi ride from both the airport and city centre. The Porto coach station is a 25 minute train ride into the centre from the airport.

We will email all guests the week before arrival so if you wish, you can arrange to meet each other in Lisbon or Porto before travelling up to the forest together. Good meeting place in Lisbon is the café in the Zoo next to the coach station. The trip from Porto has 2 changes, Coimbra and Sertã, with a chance at each for a tea and loo break. If you prefer to spend the afternoon in Coimbra rather than Porto, take an earlier coach or train there in time for the 6.30pm bus to Sertã. The coach from Lisbon has one short loo break half way at Tomar.

Return coach is 8am to Lisbon or 8am to Porto the following Saturday. You can buy your tickets online one week in advance as their site won't show the timetable til then, or 15 minutes before you board at either ticket office.
